Iris Camera
Overview
A conceptual camera promoting human connection when capturing intimate moments.
The Idea
I'm not even sure where the idea for this came from, but I mocked up a sketch and ran with it. The idea is to utilise modern camera quality, using similar sensors to those on modern smartphones, at 4 points to create depth. There is also no view finder other than the hole in the middle. I never liked the idea of a screen being between me and the moment, so I took it out.
The following are original renders of the CAD design I drew up, featuring a frosted plastic ring flash, aluminium edging, a nasal indent and a matte white finish.
I also drafted up some concepts for alternate colours, though I think this needs some serious work, though that's hard to do without testing out actual materials.
I also have the original sketch I made, the scale of which I used directly in the CAD file.
The actually processing of the photo, even as a concept, is something I'm still working on, but I want to essentially mimic film photography as closely as possible. The lossy nature of digital photography has its own aesthetic, but by redefining how images are processed, I could carve out an aesthetic niche of my own while creating a unique product.
